Regenerative Medicine Q & A

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a relatively new treatment that harnesses your body’s own ability to heal from the effects of aging and disease.

StrIVeMD Wellness & Ketamine provides several regenerative medicine therapies that use platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP comes from your own blood and contains essential growth factors that help your tissues heal faster and more efficiently.

Regenerative medicine therapies can also contain exosomes that can trigger a regenerative response in your body. Exosomes come from mesenchymal stem cells and contain a high concentration of growth factors to repair damage in your muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, and hair.

When should I consider regenerative medicine therapy?

StrIVeMD Wellness & Ketamine determines which regenerative medicine therapy is right for you by reviewing your overall health and goals for treatment.

They might recommend regenerative medicine therapies like:

Facials

PRP facials soften your skin and minimize the effects of sun damage and aging on your skin.

Hair growth

PRP and exosomes are effective at stimulating new hair growth and can also reverse the growth of gray hair.

Chronic joint pain

Injections of PRP and exosomes into your joints can relieve the chronic pain and limited mobility of arthritis and other joint diseases.

How do I prepare for regenerative medicine therapy?

Three days before your procedure, stop or reduce your use of anti-inflammatories and begin an anti-inflammatory diet. Also, reduce your intake of fat, sugar, and refined carbohydrates to help optimize your concentration of platelets.

You need to drink more water and limit your consumption of soda, alcohol, and coffee. Only engage in low-intensity exercises in the hours before your appointment. Be sure to get a good night's sleep.

What happens during regenerative medicine therapy?

To access the PRP used in your therapy, your provider collects a sample of your blood in a test tube that contains hyaluronic acid and biotin.

They prepare the sample in a centrifuge, a device that spins your blood rapidly to extract a high concentration of growth factors.

Your provider injects the PRP into specific areas of your body after anesthetizing those areas. This may include your face to restore the youthful texture of your skin, your joints to alleviate pain, or your scalp to address premature hair loss and graying.

When using exosomes for your treatment, the team uses lab cultures of growing stem cells. They take the liquid that the cells grow in and place it in a centrifuge to concentrate the exosomes before injecting them into your joints.

Exosomes contain lipids, proteins, mRNA, and cytokines that help stimulate a regenerative response. Due to their acellular nature, exosomes have a low risk of side effects such as eliciting an immune response.

What can I expect after regenerative medicine therapy?

Regenerative therapy typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete. You can expect to see results within 3-6 weeks.

After your procedure, refrain from exercise or any strenuous activity for seven days. Try, however, to remain mobile. You can expect some soreness and pain for up to three days after your injections.

Don’t use ice on the treated areas for five days; use heat to keep you comfortable. You shouldn’t receive chiropractic treatment or deep massage in the injection areas for at least two days.

StrIVeMD Wellness & Ketamine can perform additional injections once or twice a year to help you maintain your results for the long term.
