Both conditions can be debilitating.

KETAMINE TREATMENTS IN CHICAGO

Ketamine, given intravenously, might be the most important breakthrough in antidepressant treatment in decades.

Ketamine Treatment Centers

If you suffer from depression or PTSD, you know all too well how it can rule your life. If you are in treatment, you have to dedicate time to weekly appointments. You may find it hard to keep on top of your medications, and often these medications come with unavoidable side effects – to the point where you wonder if they’re doing more harm than good.

What would you say if there was another way to treat depression? Or a different way to approach PTSD? A medication that can work better than a traditional antidepressant – but you don’t have to remember to take a pill every day. A series of treatments over two weeks – then just one appointment a month. A way for your inner sunny disposition to shine through once more.

Though it may sound too good to be true, this treatment may change your life for the better. And although it’s a new therapy, the medication has been used in higher doses for other purposes for years.

Our cutting-edge clinic is dedicated to helping you feel your best, and reaching your full potential – but with the understanding that you’ll need support as you navigate such a huge change. Call us on (847) 213-0990 or email us at info@strivemdketamine.com and take the first step in reclaiming your life.

Treatment for Depression and PTSD

A Cutting Edge Treatment for Depression and PTSD You may have heard of ketamine before: it’s commonly used as an anesthetic or painkiller – and it’s known to be used as a recreational drug for aural and visual hallucinations. When administering ketamine to our patients, we use a lower dosage, and a carefully measured approach to avoid unwanted side effects. Low doses of ketamine, administered by intravenous line, are able to provide a rapid antidepressant-like response to a chemical receptor in your brain.[1] The treatment results in a huge change in mood and outlook for our patients with PTSD and treatment-resistant depression – and it works quicker than typical antidepressants. [3] The transformation is inspiring, and very often life-changing.

How We Administer Ketamine

After making sure you’re happily settled in, a board-certified anesthesiologist will start an intravenous line and connect you to an IV infusion for 60 minutes. Vital signs will be monitored to ensure your safety. You may feel drowsy as the ketamine takes effect, and you may also experience waking dreams – where you can control the outcome. We give you anti-sickness medication beforehand, as nausea is a common side effect of ketamine. There is always a member of staff at hand to look after you and answer any questions. The drowsy effect of the infusion wears off a few minutes after finishing, but we always check up on you before we let you leave. We require you to make arrangements to be picked up – for your safety, we do not recommend driving afterward. Intravenous ketamine treatments are not:

  • Designed to give you vivid hallucinations
  • Likely to affect you for the rest of the day – many patients can return to work or school after an hour
  • Addictive in any way
  • Dangerous to pause if you need to take a break

You need at least six sessions of intravenous infusions – an intense course over two weeks. After this course, you may only need one session a month to keep your mood disorder under control – an amazing outcome for you and your loved ones.

What can Ketamine be used for?

Ketamine can be used as an induction agent and sedation for general anesthesia; however, at lower doses, there is evidence that it can be used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and pain. For pain, it can be used for patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), but can be utilized for chronic back and neuropathic pain as well.

How long does the effect of ketamine last?

For anxiety, depression and PTSD, ketamine can improve symptoms between 7 hours to 7 days. A series of infusions is beneficial and can be repeated if necessary.

For pain, ketamine has been shown to provide significant lasting pain relief in up to half of the patients being treated. About 30% of patients experience relief for 3 weeks or more. In addition, most patients report less need for pain management medications after receiving a ketamine infusion.

What to expect during the infusion?

On the day of your infusion, you can expect to be here for 2-3 hours. You will have an IV started to administer your medication by a trained healthcare professional, and have individualized treatment based on your body weight. Vital signs will be monitored closely during and after the infusion. You will need a driver to transport you home.

What are the side effects?

Side effects can be dose-dependent and can become more noticeable at higher doses. Patients who are over the age of 65 may experience more side effects with this medication. These side effects usually resolve within 2 hours after the infusion but can occur up to 24 hours after the infusion was stopped.

Increased blood pressure (hypertension), heart rate (tachycardia) and drowsiness (sedation) are the most common reported side effects. Other side effects include hallucinations, double vision, increased pressure in the eye, and jerky arm movements.

Rare side effects include allergic reaction, irregular heart rate or slowing of heart rate, and low blood pressure. If you have a pre-existing history of hypertension, talk to your doctor about using ketamine prior to the infusion.

Do not stop any medications for hypertension before the infusion.

We strongly recommend avoiding driving or operating heavy machinery for 24 hours after your infusions.

Hallucinations can range from pleasant dreams to intense visual and auditory hallucinations.

It can also change behavior, and because of this, we recommend to having supervision for 24 hours after infusion and avoiding major life decisions for 24 hours as well.

Does StrIVeMD Wellness and Ketamine accept health insurance?

We do not accept insurance for payment of IV medical infusions or hydration. However, this does not rule out the possibility of you getting some reimbursement by your insurance provider.after infusion and avoiding major life decisions for 24 hours as well.
